EGDM ministry is based on invitations and would be applicable for: Mid-week sessions (one or more) and/or Sunday service; Pastors, deacons, leaders forums, conferences, and seminars; Church camps and retreat weekends; Christian organizations. Primary areas covered include: Bible Survey: A Two Testament Approach; Lay Leadership in the Local Church; Modern Israel and the Modern Church; Christian Persecution.

Eastern Gate Discipleship Ministries

My wife, Rebecca, and I are born and raised Maritimers. In July of 2019 we returned to Halifax after more than 8 years in Winnipeg where I served as National Director of Jerusalem-based Bridges for Peace (BFP). In early 2018 I found myself contemplating and praying about God’s direction for our lives after returning to the Maritimes. In the wee hours of the morning I awoke and all I can say is that for the next 45 minutes I wrote feverishly as the Holy Spirit downloaded the framework and initial content for what has now become Eastern Gate Discipleship Ministries (EGDM).

Over time I realized that as a Maritimer my focus was to be primarily with local churches and educators in NS, NB, PE, and NL – Atlantic Canada. So, EGDM is an Atlantic Canada discipleship and consulting ministry for local church Pastors, Leaders, and Educators, in Atlantic Canada. The Scripture that came to mind that would serve to motivate EGDM is:

“Strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.”
Acts 14:22 ESV

You may wonder – why another Discipleship ministry resource? I do too. But after hearing from numerous pastors and church consultants, and trying my best to listen to the Holy Spirit, I’ve become convinced that Eastern Gate offers a niche discipleship and consulting ministry which most other excellent ministries don’t address in detail. Or at least this is what I’ve been told.

I am passionate about the health and effectiveness of the local church and those of you called to shepherd and lead it. I believe the local church is God’s #1 method of extending His kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. There are too many pastors, lay leaders, and ministry workers discouraged and suffering from a lack of hope and vision. This need not continue.

I believe there are a few core discipleship principles (which are often overlooked) that can make all the difference.

Core Discipleship Principles

To lay a strong foundation on which to build effective kingdom ministry, strategies, growth, and discipleship.

  • The power of reproduction and multiplication from Biblical, relational discipleship as integral to the life and health of the local church;
  • Identifying, building/discipling, and releasing youth and young adults to ministry and  leadership;
  • Leadership in the local church:
    • display the fruit of the Spirit and model Biblical priorities;
    • ministry leaders working together as God intended, understanding and applying the Word of God;
    • identify and deal with potential attitudinal or relational obstacles to successful ministry;
  • Bible Survey: a Two Testament approach
    • Biblical discipleship demands we continue growing in the knowledge of Scripture and putting that knowledge into practice/action.
    • It is imperative to treat the spiritual condition of Biblical illiteracy and shallowness. Failing to do so to will always yield the same results – anaemic Christian belief, practice, and discipleship, by under-nourished, immature believers.

Strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God (Acts 14:22 ESV)

Eastern Gate will focus on helping your ministry grow through:

  • Relational discipleship as integral to the life and health of the local church;
  • Identifying, building/discipling, and releasing youth and young adults to ministry and leadership;
  • Lay Leadership in the local church: 45+ years of personal experience, observations, insights, and recommendations;
  • Bible Survey: a Two Testament approach
    • Modern Israel in relation to the modern church
    • Persecution of Christians – resources.

I assure you – I do not have all the answers and I do not offer 10 easy steps to success! I’m walking this journey with you; I’ve lived and breathed it for over 45 years; and I care deeply for Christ’s church. I sincerely appreciate the pastors, educators, and consultants across Canada who have so kindly endorsed the ministry of Eastern Gate. See endorsements here.

You may have heard of bodybuilders – Arnold Schwarzenegger or Charles Atlas. I would love to join with you to build the Body of Christ in this 21 st century – to be Bodybuilders and Disciple makers together. I take hope in the fact that God has called you and I to this specific generation – to proclaim His kingdom and make disciples of all nations, starting at home. Nothing and nobody should stand in the way of this holy mission.

After many trips to Israel one of my favourite views is from standing on the Mount of Olives overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem and it’s eastern wall. Prominent in that wall is the Eastern (or Golden) Gate – the gate through which Jesus entered Jerusalem (as it existed in the 1 st century) on Palm Sunday enroute to His crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension; and, through which He will enter again when He returns as King and Messiah.

Also, living in Nova Scotia on the east coast of Canada seemed to fit well.
